The women SIDR worked with throughout post quake relief and reconstruction reached out to me to say that when all the NGOs pulled out. There was no work. Determined that we at SIDR believe in long term help. I returned to Jacmel just to see what I could do to set these women up so they would remain independent and be able to feed their families. Bringing in the tools was easy. Looking around at what was there and what was needed. We found bamboo!! So together we started working with bamboo to make sheathing for housing ,lampshades ,organic speakers for cell phones.. today they still create and earn their way. And for the first time ever. Own bank accounts !!
